Hedwig Kohn

Hedwig Kohn, born on April fifth, eighteen eighty-seven in Breslau, was a pioneering physicist and university teacher. She was one of only three women, alongside Lise Meitner and Hertha Sponer, to achieve habilitation in physics in Germany prior to World War II, a significant milestone in a male-dominated field.

Her academic journey was abruptly interrupted by the rise of the Nazi regime, which forced her to flee Germany due to her Jewish heritage. This pivotal moment in her life led her to the United States, where she would continue her contributions to the field of physics.

In her new home, Kohn not only persevered but thrived, dedicating her life to education and research. Her legacy as a trailblazer for women in science remains influential, inspiring future generations of physicists.
