Hedwig of Silesia

Hedwig of Silesia, also known as Hedwig of Andechs, was born in the year one thousand one hundred seventy-four. A prominent figure in the Bavarian comital House of Andechs, she became Duchess of Silesia in the year twelve hundred one and later assumed the title of Duchess of Greater Poland in twelve hundred thirty-one. Her influence extended further when she served as High Duchess consort of Poland from twelve hundred thirty-two until twelve hundred thirty-eight.

Throughout her life, Hedwig was recognized not only for her noble lineage but also for her significant contributions to the regions she governed. Her reign was marked by a commitment to her people and the promotion of cultural and religious values. This dedication ultimately led to her canonization by the Catholic Church in the year twelve hundred sixty-seven, an honor bestowed upon her by Pope Clement IV.
