Heikki A. Alikoski

Heikki A. Alikoski, born in Oulu in nineteen twelve, was a prominent Finnish astronomer whose contributions to the field of astronomy are noteworthy. He dedicated a significant portion of his career to the Turku Observatory, where he served as an observatory assistant from nineteen thirty-seven to nineteen fifty-six under the guidance of the esteemed Yrjö Väisälä.

During his tenure at the observatory, Alikoski made remarkable discoveries, identifying twelve asteroids that expanded our understanding of the cosmos. His passion for astronomy was matched by his commitment to education and research, leading him to play a pivotal role in establishing the Turku Astronomical–Optical Institute.

In recognition of his contributions, the outer main-belt asteroid 1567 Alikoski, discovered by Yrjö Väisälä in nineteen forty-one, was named in his honor. Alikoski's legacy continues to inspire future generations of astronomers and enthusiasts alike.
