Heinz Schiller

Heinz Rudolf Schiller, born on January 25, 1930, in Switzerland, was a multifaceted talent known for his prowess as an engineer and racing automobile driver. Before making his mark in the world of sports car racing, Schiller was celebrated as a speedboat champion in his homeland, showcasing his affinity for speed and competition.

Transitioning to sports car racing in the mid-1950s, Schiller quickly found success, which led him to explore the thrilling realm of single-seater cars. His journey began with hillclimbing events, eventually evolving into circuit racing, where he honed his skills and gained recognition.

Schiller's foray into Formula One commenced in 1962 with Ecurie Nationale Suisse, where he drove a three-year-old Porsche. His debut at the Brussels Grand Prix saw him finish eighth overall after three heats. He continued to compete in various events, including the Pau Grand Prix, where he secured a ninth-place finish.

Despite facing challenges, such as failing to qualify at the Naples Grand Prix and experiencing oil pressure issues during the German Grand Prix, Schiller's determination shone through. He made a notable return to Formula One in 1963, finishing third at Pau, albeit five laps down, before ultimately returning to sports car racing.

In addition to his Formula One endeavors, Schiller participated in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964, finishing tenth alongside Gerhard Koch. His legacy as a versatile and passionate driver remains a testament to his contributions to motorsport.
