Helen of Bosnia

Helen of Bosnia, also known as Gruba, was born around the year 1345. She emerged as a significant figure in the Kingdom of Bosnia, taking on the role of queen regnant in September of 1395 following the death of her husband, King Dabiša. Her reign, however, was marked by uncertainty regarding the extent of her power, as the real authority often lay with the kingdom's magnates.

Her tenure as queen lasted until late April or early May of 1398, a period during which the political landscape was tumultuous. The circumstances surrounding her rule have led to debates among historians about whether she was a true queen regnant or merely a regent during an interregnum.

Despite the challenges she faced, Helen's leadership was a notable chapter in Bosnian history. Her reign concluded with the election of King Ostoja, marking a transition in the kingdom's governance.
