Helen Prejean

Helen Prejean, born on April twenty-first, nineteen thirty-nine, is a prominent American Catholic religious sister and a passionate advocate for the abolition of the death penalty. Her commitment to human rights has made her a leading voice in the movement against capital punishment.

Prejean gained widespread recognition with her best-selling book, Dead Man Walking, published in nineteen ninety-three. The book is a profound exploration of her experiences as a spiritual adviser to two death row inmates, delving into the far-reaching effects of the death penalty on all parties involved. This impactful work was later adapted into a critically acclaimed film in nineteen ninety-five, featuring Susan Sarandon in the role of Prejean, a performance that earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
