Helene Kröller-Müller

Helene Kröller-Müller, born on February 11, 1869, was a pioneering German art collector and philanthropist. She stands out as one of the first European women to assemble a significant art collection, showcasing her remarkable vision and dedication to the arts.

Among her many contributions to the art world, Kröller-Müller is particularly celebrated for her early recognition of the genius of Vincent van Gogh. Her passion for art led her to curate a collection that would later become one of the most important in Europe.

In a significant turn of events, her entire collection was sold to the Dutch government, along with her expansive forested country estate, which she shared with her husband, Anton Kröller. This estate has since been transformed into the Kröller-Müller Museum and sculpture garden, nestled within the Hoge Veluwe National Park, one of the largest national parks in the Netherlands.
