Hélène Rioux

Hélène Rioux, born on January twelfth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished French Canadian writer and translator hailing from Montreal, Quebec. Her educational journey began at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal, where she laid the groundwork for her literary career. She further expanded her horizons by studying Russian at the Université de Montréal, enriching her understanding of language and culture.

Rioux's literary contributions are notable, with her short stories appearing in various esteemed periodicals, including XYZ, Moebius, Arcade, and Possibles. In addition to her fiction, she has penned a literary column for the Journal d'Outremont, showcasing her insights into the literary world.

As a translator, Rioux has played a significant role in bringing Canadian literature to French-speaking audiences. She has translated works by prominent authors such as Linda Leith, Julie Keith, Wayson Choy, Madeleine Thien, Taras Grescoe, Bernice Morgan, and Lucy Maud Montgomery. Her translation of Yann Martel's Self earned her a Quebec Writers' Federation Award, and she was also a finalist for the same honor for her translation of Jeffrey Moore's The Memory Artists (Les artistes de la Mémoire).
