Hellhammer (musician)

Jan Axel Blomberg, born on August 2, 1969, is a renowned Norwegian drummer, best known by his stage name Hellhammer. His musical journey began in 1988 when he joined the influential black metal band Mayhem, where he has remained a pivotal figure, contributing to every one of their studio albums. His unique drumming style and dedication have solidified his status in the metal community.

In 1987, before his time with Mayhem, Blomberg co-founded the avant-garde black metal band Arcturus, initially known as Mortem, alongside Steinar Sverd Johnsen and Marius Vold. This innovative group pushed the boundaries of the genre until their disbandment in April 2007, after which they reunited in 2011, showcasing Blomberg's versatility as a musician.

Adopting the stage name Hellhammer was a tribute to the Swiss extreme metal band of the same name, reflecting his deep appreciation for the genre's roots. Over the years, Blomberg has been recognized for his exceptional talent, earning the prestigious Spellemannprisen award three times, a testament to his impact on the music scene.
