Hendra Setiawan

Hendra Setiawan, born on August 25, 1984, is a distinguished Indonesian badminton player renowned for his exceptional achievements in the sport. He has earned the prestigious title of Olympic Games gold medalist and is a four-time World Champion. Setiawan's accolades also include two gold medals at the Asian Games and two All England championships, making him one of the most celebrated badminton players in Indonesia's history.

Throughout his illustrious career, Setiawan has reached the pinnacle of men's doubles badminton, achieving the world number one ranking with two different partners. His partnership with Markis Kido saw them ascend to the top of the rankings in September 2007, while his collaboration with Mohammad Ahsan led to a similar achievement in November 2013. In addition to his world titles, he has secured six gold medals at the SEA Games, showcasing his dominance in both men's doubles and team events.

Setiawan's remarkable journey includes significant victories alongside Kido, where they clinched titles at the Asian Championships in 2005 and 2009, the World Cup in 2006, the World Championships in 2007, the Olympic Games in 2008, and the Asian Games in 2010. His versatility is further highlighted by his participation in mixed doubles, where he finished as runner-up at the 2010 Indonesia Open with partner Anastasia Russkikh.

In his later career, Setiawan formed a formidable partnership with Mohammad Ahsan from 2012 to 2024, achieving numerous prestigious titles, including the World Championships in 2013, 2015, and 2019, and a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. Notably, he has won the All England twice and triumphed three times at the BWF Superseries Finals. Setiawan made history by becoming the oldest World Championships title holder at the age of thirty-five, after winning the 2019 edition.
