Henry of Huntingdon

Henry of Huntingdon, born around the year 1088, emerged as a prominent figure in the 12th century, known for his significant contributions as a historian and chronicler. The son of a canon in the diocese of Lincoln, he was raised in the opulent court of Robert Bloet, who became his patron and played a crucial role in his early life.

As a member of the secular clergy, Henry distinguished himself as the most important Anglo-Norman historian of his time. His scholarly pursuits led him to serve as the archdeacon of Huntingdon, a position that further solidified his influence within the ecclesiastical community.

At the behest of Alexander of Lincoln, Bloet's successor, Henry embarked on the monumental task of writing his magnum opus, the Historia Anglorum, which he began around the year 1129. This work chronicles the history of England from its earliest days up to the year 1154, showcasing his dedication to preserving the narrative of his homeland.
