Herb Breau

Herb Breau, born on December fifth, nineteen forty-four, in Haut-Sheila, New Brunswick, is a notable Canadian businessman and former politician. He represented the Liberal Party as a Member of Parliament for Gloucester from the nineteen sixty-eight election until his defeat in the nineteen eighty-four election, a pivotal moment that saw the Liberal caucus shrink to just forty MPs.

During his political tenure, Breau held several significant roles, including serving as a parliamentary secretary in the nineteen seventies. He was the chairman of the Parliamentary Task Forces on North-South Relations and Fiscal Federalism in Canada, and he led the Parliamentary Association of Canada-United States from nineteen seventy-seven to nineteen eighty-one. Additionally, he was a member of the Trilateral Commission from nineteen eighty-one to nineteen eighty-four.

In June nineteen eighty-four, Breau was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans when John Turner assumed the role of Prime Minister. However, his ministerial career was short-lived, concluding just over two months later due to the election that resulted in the defeat of the Turner government.

After his political career, Breau transitioned into the private sector, taking on an executive role at Syscan International, where he served as Acting Chief Executive Officer from two thousand to two thousand one. In the nineteen nineties, he was also appointed to the board of governors of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) by the federal government.

Currently, Herb Breau is an active member of the board of directors of the Pearson Centre for Progressive Policy, continuing his commitment to public service and progressive initiatives.
