Herman Rarebell, born Hermann Erbel on November 18, 1948, is a distinguished German drummer renowned for his pivotal role in the hard rock band Scorpions from 1977 to 1996. During his tenure, he contributed to eight studio albums, showcasing his exceptional drumming skills and musical creativity.
In addition to his drumming prowess, Rarebell made significant contributions as a songwriter, co-writing several of the band's iconic tracks, including "Another Piece of Meat," "Falling in Love," and "Passion Rules the Game." He is also credited with writing the lyrics for some of Scorpions' most celebrated songs, such as "Rock You Like a Hurricane," "Blackout," "Make It Real," "Arizona," "Bad Boys Running Wild," and "Tease Me Please Me." His lyrical talent has left an indelible mark on the band's legacy.
Rarebell's musical journey began in 1965 with the band The Mastermen, followed by stints with The Fuggs Blues and RS Rindfleisch, where he released a single and performed extensively in US military clubs across Germany. He further honed his craft with the Krautrock band Missus Beastly in the early 1970s, before joining the band Onyx, which later became known as Vineyard.
Throughout his career, Rarebell has also pursued solo projects, releasing two albums: "Nip in the Bud" in 1981 and "Herman Ze German" in 1986. His education at the Musikhochschule Saarbrücken in drums and piano laid the foundation for his successful career in music.
