Hermann Goldschmidt

Hermann Goldschmidt, born on June seventeenth, eighteen hundred and two, was a remarkable figure in the realms of both astronomy and painting. Originally a painter, Goldschmidt's artistic journey took a pivotal turn after he attended a lecture by the renowned French astronomer Urbain Le Verrier. This experience ignited his passion for astronomy, leading him to explore the cosmos with fervor.

In eighteen fifty-two, Goldschmidt made a significant contribution to astronomy with his discovery of the asteroid Lutetia. This achievement marked the beginning of a prolific period in his career, during which he would go on to discover a total of fourteen asteroids by eighteen sixty-one. His dedication and success in the field earned him the prestigious Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in the same year, recognizing him as the individual who had discovered more asteroids than anyone else up to that point.
