Hieronymus von Colloredo, born on May thirty-first, seventeen thirty-two, was a prominent Catholic priest and composer who played a significant role in the ecclesiastical landscape of his time. His journey in the church began with his appointment as Prince-Bishop of Gurk in seventeen sixty-one, a position he held until seventeen seventy-two.
In seventeen seventy-two, Colloredo ascended to the esteemed role of Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, where he remained until the secularization of the prince-archbishopric in eighteen oh three. This period marked a significant transition in his life, as he was stripped of temporal power and subsequently fled to Vienna.
Despite the loss of his political influence, Colloredo continued to hold the title of non-resident archbishop of Salzburg until his death in eighteen twelve. He is perhaps best remembered as a patron and employer of the illustrious composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whose genius flourished under Colloredo's patronage.
