Hilda Gadea

Hilda Gadea, born on March twenty-first, nineteen twenty-five, was a prominent Peruvian economist, political activist, and writer. She played a significant role in the political landscape of Peru as the Secretary of the Economy for the Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana (APRA). Her political activities, however, led to her exile in nineteen forty-eight, marking the beginning of a tumultuous journey that intertwined her life with that of the revolutionary Che Guevara.

Gadea first encountered Guevara in Guatemala in December nineteen fifty-three, and their shared political beliefs soon drew them to Mexico, where they could continue their activism away from the pressures of their home country. In September nineteen fifty-five, Gadea married Guevara after discovering she was pregnant. Their union produced a daughter, Hilda Beatriz "Hildita" Guevara Gadea, born in February nineteen fifty-six, who tragically passed away from cancer in nineteen ninety-five.

Following the Cuban Revolution, Gadea traveled to Cuba, only to face the heart-wrenching news from Guevara that he had fallen in love with another woman, Aleida March. Despite the personal turmoil, Gadea remained steadfast in her loyalty to Guevara's political movement. Their marriage ended in divorce in May nineteen fifty-nine, but Gadea continued to support the revolutionary ideals they once shared.

In addition to her political endeavors, Gadea authored the memoir "My Life With Che," providing a unique perspective on her life alongside one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century. Hilda Gadea passed away in Havana in nineteen seventy-four, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and commitment to her beliefs.
