Hildrun Laufer-Claus

Hildrun Laufer-Claus, born on May 13, 1939, in Dresden, is a distinguished former East German athlete renowned for her prowess in long jump. Her athletic journey saw her competing in the 1960 and 1964 Summer Olympics, where she achieved remarkable finishes, securing third place in 1960 and seventh place in 1964.

Relocating to East Berlin, Hildrun made her mark in the athletics world by clinching the East German championships in long jump from nineteen fifty-seven to nineteen sixty-two and again in nineteen sixty-four. Her exceptional talent was further highlighted by her setting three world records, with jumps measuring six point thirty-six meters and six point forty meters in nineteen sixty, followed by six point forty-two meters in nineteen sixty-one.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Hildrun holds a degree in landscape design. She married Peter Laufer, a fellow athlete and Olympic pole vaulter, and during the 1964 Games, she competed under the name Hildrun Laufer-Claus. Despite facing a life-altering sports-related accident in nineteen ninety-five that left her paralyzed, her legacy in athletics remains inspiring.
