Hipólito Ruiz López

Hipólito Ruiz López, born on August 8, 1754, in Belorado, Burgos, Spain, was a prominent Spanish botanist whose contributions to the field of botany are still recognized today. His passion for plant life led him to embark on a significant expedition to the New World, where he dedicated himself to the study of the diverse floras of Peru and Chile.

From seventeen seventy-seven to seventeen eighty-eight, Ruiz López participated in a major botanical expedition commissioned by King Carlos III. Alongside fellow botanist José Antonio Pavón Jiménez, he explored the rich biodiversity of South America, meticulously documenting and collecting specimens that would later enhance scientific understanding of these regions.

Ruiz López's work not only contributed to the botanical knowledge of his time but also laid the groundwork for future research in the field.
