Homai Vyarawalla

Homai Vyarawalla, born on December ninth, nineteen thirteen, was a trailblazer in the world of photography and journalism, recognized as India's first woman photojournalist. Her journey began in nineteen thirty-eight with the Bombay Chronicle, where she skillfully captured the essence of daily life in Mumbai, showcasing her unique perspective through the lens.

Throughout her illustrious career, Vyarawalla contributed significantly to the British Information Services from the nineteen forties until her retirement in nineteen seventy. Her work not only documented historical moments but also paved the way for future generations of women in journalism, as she was among the first to join a mainstream publication, The Illustrated Weekly of India.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to the field, Vyarawalla was honored with the Padma Vibhushan in two thousand eleven, the second highest civilian award in India. Her legacy as a pioneer in photojournalism continues to inspire many, and she was affectionately referred to as
