Honoré Hippolyte Achille Gervais, born on August thirteenth, eighteen sixty-four in Richelieu, Rouville County, Canada East, was a distinguished Canadian lawyer, professor, politician, and writer. He was the son of Charles Gervais and Adele Monty, and his educational journey began at the Petit Séminaire of Sainte-Marie-de-Monnoir, followed by his studies at Université Laval. Gervais earned a Master of Laws in eighteen eighty-seven and a Doctor of Laws in eighteen eighty-nine.

His legal career commenced when he was admitted to the Bar of the Province of Quebec on January thirteenth, eighteen eighty-seven. By eighteen ninety-seven, he had achieved the prestigious title of Queen's Counsel. Gervais practiced law in partnership with notable figures such as Horace Archambault, Henri-Benjamin Rainville, and Paul Rainville in the firm Rainville, Archambault, Gervais & Rainville.

In eighteen ninety-six, Gervais joined Université Laval as a Professor of International Law and Civil Procedure, contributing significantly to the academic landscape. His political career took flight when he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the Montreal electoral district of St. James in a by-election in nineteen hundred and four, following the annulment of a previous election. A member of the Liberal Party, he successfully secured re-election in nineteen hundred and four and again in nineteen hundred and eight.
