Horst Seehofer

Horst Seehofer, born on July fourth, nineteen forty-nine, is a prominent German politician known for his significant contributions to the country's political landscape. He served as Minister for the Interior, Building and Community under Chancellor Angela Merkel from two thousand eighteen to two thousand twenty-one. A member of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Seehofer held the position of the 18th Minister-President of Bavaria from two thousand eight to two thousand eighteen, and he was the Leader of the CSU in Bavaria from two thousand eight to two thousand nineteen.

First elected to the Bundestag in nineteen eighty, Seehofer's political career includes serving as Minister for Health and Social Security in the Christian-liberal cabinets of Helmut Kohl from nineteen ninety-two to nineteen ninety-eight. After a period in opposition, he returned to government as Minister for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in Angela Merkel's grand coalition cabinet from two thousand five to two thousand eight. Following a disappointing outcome for his party in the two thousand eight Bavarian state election, he became both Leader of the CSU and Minister-President of Bavaria, forming a coalition government with the Free Democratic Party (FDP), marking a significant political shift.
