Hortense de Beauharnais, born on April tenth, seventeen eighty-three, was a remarkable composer and a significant figure in European history. As the stepdaughter of Emperor Napoléon I, she was the daughter of his first wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais. Her life took a pivotal turn when she married Louis Bonaparte, Napoléon's brother, thus becoming Napoleon's sister-in-law.
In eighteen oh six, Hortense ascended to the role of queen consort of Holland when Louis was crowned King of Holland. This position not only placed her in the heart of royal affairs but also allowed her to influence the cultural landscape of her time through her musical compositions.
Hortense and Louis had three sons, each of whom would leave their mark on history: Napoléon-Charles Bonaparte, Napoleon III, who would become Emperor of the French, and Louis II of Holland. Additionally, she had an illegitimate son, Charles, Duke of Morny, born from her relationship with the Comte de Flahaut, further adding complexity to her personal narrative.
