Hossein Derakhshan, born on January 7, 1975, is a prominent Iranian-Canadian journalist, blogger, and researcher, widely recognized for his pioneering role in the blogging revolution in Iran. Often referred to as the father of Persian blogging, Derakhshan has significantly influenced the digital landscape of Iranian media.
His journey took a dramatic turn when he was arrested on November 1, 2008, leading to a lengthy imprisonment in Tehran. Initially sentenced to nineteen and a half years in prison on September 28, 2010, his sentence was later reduced to seventeen years in October 2013. Derakhshan's time in prison lasted until his release on November 19, 2014, after being pardoned by Iran's supreme leader.
