Howard Valentine

Howard Valentine, born on December fourteenth, eighteen eighty-one, was a distinguished American track and field athlete. He made his mark in the world of athletics by competing in the 1904 Summer Olympics held in St. Louis, where he showcased his talent in the 800 metres, earning a silver medal, and also participated in the 1500 metres event, finishing in seventh place.

Valentine was a key member of the New York Athletic Club team, competing in the four-mile team race against the Chicago Athletic Association. Alongside teammates Arthur Newton, George Underwood, Paul Pilgrim, and David Munson, he contributed to their victory, securing the gold medal in this prestigious event.

His Olympic journey continued at the 1906 Intercalated Games, where he faced challenges, being eliminated in the first rounds of both the 400 metres and 800 metres events. Despite these setbacks, his earlier achievements solidified his reputation in the athletics community.

In a tragic turn of events in nineteen eleven, Valentine experienced a significant loss when his home was broken into, resulting in the theft of approximately two hundred seventy of his athletics cups and medals, a testament to his successful career.

Valentine's life came to an end in nineteen thirty-two after suffering a heart attack, leading to his admission to Broad Street Hospital in New York City. At the time of his passing, he was working as an office manager for the brokerage firm E.C. Benedict & Co., leaving behind a legacy in the world of athletics.
