Howie Hawkins

Howie Hawkins, born on December eighth, nineteen fifty-two, is a prominent American politician, activist, and transportation worker. As a co-founder of the Green Party of the United States, he has been a significant figure in the political landscape, notably serving as the party's presidential nominee in the two thousand twenty election. His political ideology is rooted in eco-socialism, advocating for a comprehensive Green New Deal that he first proposed in two thousand ten, aimed at fostering a robust, independent working-class movement against the prevailing two-party system and capitalism.

Hawkins has been actively involved in various social movements since the nineteen sixties, championing causes such as anti-war, anti-nuclear, and pro-worker initiatives. A retired teamster and construction worker, he dedicated his career to labor, working night shifts unloading trucks for UPS from two thousand one until his retirement in two thousand seventeen.

Throughout his political career, Hawkins has run for office on twenty-five occasions, though he has not secured a victory. His notable campaigns include his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in New York in two thousand six and his runs for Governor of New York in two thousand ten and two thousand fourteen, the latter of which helped restore the Green Party's ballot status. In two thousand twenty, he garnered four hundred seven thousand sixty-eight votes, representing zero point two percent of the electorate.

In two thousand twenty-two, Hawkins sought the governorship again, but due to the Green Party's loss of ballot access, he ran as an Independent write-in candidate, receiving nine thousand two hundred ninety votes, or zero point two percent. Despite the challenges, Hawkins remains a steadfast advocate for environmental and social justice.
