Hrant Shahinyan, born on July 30, 1923, was a distinguished Soviet Armenian gymnast renowned for his exceptional skills on the still rings and pommel horse. His remarkable athletic career is highlighted by his achievements as a two-time Olympic Champion and a two-time World Champion, alongside an impressive record of seven USSR Championship titles.
In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Shahinyan was honored with several prestigious titles, including Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in nineteen fifty-two, Honored Coach of Armenia in nineteen sixty-one, and Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Armenian SSR in nineteen sixty-six.
Beyond his competitive success, Shahinyan played a significant role in the development of sports in Armenia. He served as the head of the Sports Committee of the Armenian SSR from nineteen sixty-seven to nineteen sixty-nine and later took on the role of Deputy Chairman of the Sports Committee from nineteen sixty-nine to nineteen seventy-five.
