Htin Kyaw, born on July twentieth, nineteen forty-six, is a prominent Burmese politician, writer, and economist. He made history by serving as the ninth president of Myanmar from two thousand sixteen until his resignation in two thousand eighteen. His presidency marked a significant milestone as he was the first elected leader without military ties since the coup d'état in nineteen sixty-two.
As the second son of the esteemed scholar Min Thu Wun, Htin Kyaw has a rich background in academia and governance. Prior to his presidency, he held various influential positions within the education, planning, and treasury ministries in previous governments, showcasing his extensive experience in public service.
Htin Kyaw is recognized as an important ally of Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the State Counsellor of Myanmar. His close association with Suu Kyi is particularly notable, as she is constitutionally barred from the presidency, making his role even more significant in the political landscape of Myanmar.
