Huang Xing

Huang Xing, born in the village of Gaotang in Changsha, Hunan, in the year eighteen seventy-four, emerged as a pivotal figure in Chinese history. As a revolutionary leader and politician, he played a crucial role in the establishment of the Republic of China, serving as its first commander-in-chief. His contributions to the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Republic positioned him as a key ally of Sun Yat-sen, with the two leaders famously referred to as Sun-Huang during the Xinhai Revolution.

Known for his bravery in battle, Huang earned the nickname 'Eight Fingered General' due to injuries sustained during his military service. His legacy is honored at his tomb, located on Mount Yuelu in Changsha, a site that reflects his significant impact on the nation.

Throughout his life, Huang Xing was recognized by various names, a common practice for many Chinese men born before nineteen forty-nine. Initially named Huang Zhen, he later adopted the name Huang Xing. Additionally, he was known as Huang Keqiang and Qing Wu, and after the year nineteen eleven, he also used the names Li Youqing and Zhang Shouzheng.
