Hubert T. Lacroix, born on July 13, 1955, in Montreal, Quebec, is a distinguished Canadian lawyer renowned for his leadership as the fifteenth President and CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) from 2008 to 2018. His academic journey began at Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, followed by a Bachelor of Law degree from McGill University in 1976, and he was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1977. Lacroix further enhanced his credentials with a Master of Business Administration from McGill's Desautels Faculty of Management in 1981.
Beginning his legal career at O'Brien, Hall, Saunders in 1977, Lacroix later became a senior adviser at Stikeman Elliott LLP. His executive experience includes serving as the Executive Chairman of Telemedia Corporation from 2000 to 2003 and holding positions on the Boards of Directors for various companies, including Zarlink Semiconductors, Donohue Inc., Circo Craft Co. Inc., Adventure Electronics Inc., and Michelin Canada Inc.
In addition to his corporate roles, Lacroix is an associate professor at the Faculty of Law at Université de Montréal, where he imparts knowledge on securities and mergers and acquisitions. His passion for sports is evident through his work as a basketball colour commentator for Télévision de Radio-Canada during the Summer Olympics in 1984, 1988, and 1996, as well as his contributions to Radio-Canada's Hebdo-Sports radio show.
Appointed by Governor General Michaëlle Jean in November 2007, Lacroix took the helm of the CBC on January 1, 2008, succeeding Robert Rabinovitch. His leadership was recognized with a reappointment for a second term in October 2012, and he concluded his tenure in 2018, passing the baton to Catherine Tait. Outside of his professional achievements, Lacroix has also participated in the Oasis Montreal Half-Marathon, completing it in one hour, thirty-two minutes, and forty-one seconds.
