Hugh Latimer

Hugh Latimer, born in the year fourteen eighty-five, was a prominent theologian, writer, and Anglican priest whose influence resonated throughout the Reformation period. As a Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge, he dedicated his life to the pursuit of religious truth and the advancement of the Protestant faith.

Latimer served as the Bishop of Worcester, where he played a crucial role in the Church of England's transformation during a time of significant upheaval. His commitment to reform and his eloquent preaching earned him a position as chaplain to King Edward VI, further solidifying his status as a key figure in the Anglican Church.

Tragically, Latimer's unwavering faith and dedication to his beliefs led to his martyrdom. In the year fifteen fifty-five, under the reign of the Catholic Queen Mary I, he was executed by burning at the stake. This act of persecution marked him as one of the three Oxford Martyrs, a testament to his enduring legacy within Anglicanism.
