Hwang Kyo-ahn, born on April fifteenth, nineteen fifty-seven, is a prominent South Korean politician and lawyer who has played significant roles in the country's political landscape. He served as the Prime Minister of South Korea from June eighteen, two thousand fifteen, until May nine, two thousand seventeen, and briefly held the position of Acting President following the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye.
Before his tenure as Prime Minister, Hwang was the Minister of Justice from two thousand thirteen to two thousand fifteen, where he was instrumental in the investigation of the 2013 South Korean sabotage plot. His efforts led to the conviction of Lee Seok-ki and the dissolution of the Unified Progressive Party, showcasing his commitment to upholding the law.
In January two thousand nineteen, Hwang joined the Liberty Korea Party and was elected as its leader in February of the same year. He continued to lead the party even after its merger with other political entities to form the United Future Party in February two thousand twenty. However, after a disappointing performance in the two thousand twenty legislative elections, he stepped down from his leadership role.
Hwang's political journey continued as he announced his candidacy for the People Power Party's nomination in the two thousand twenty-two presidential election, although he was eliminated from the shortlist in October. In April two thousand twenty-five, he declared an independent bid for the upcoming presidential election but withdrew in June, endorsing the PPP nominee Kim Moon-soo.
