Ibn al-Faqih

Ibn al-Faqih, a prominent figure of the 10th century, was a Persian historian and geographer whose contributions to the field of geography remain significant. He is best known for his seminal work, the Mukhtasar Kitab al-Buldan, or the 'Concise Book of Lands,' which he composed in Arabic. This text serves as a vital resource for understanding the geographical knowledge of the time.

His work gained recognition in the late nineteenth century when the Dutch orientalist Michael Jan de Goeje included it in his extensive eight-volume series, Bibliotheca geographorum Arabicorum. Published by Brill in Leiden, this series aimed to compile and preserve the geographical writings of Arab scholars, with Ibn al-Faqih's Mukhtasar Kitab al-Buldan featured prominently in volume five.

In the years that followed, the significance of Ibn al-Faqih's work continued to be acknowledged, leading to the release of second editions in nineteen sixty-seven by Dar Sadir in Beirut and E.J. Brill in Lugduni Batavorum. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the study of geography and history, showcasing the rich intellectual heritage of the Persian world.
