Ibn al-Khatib

Ibn al-Khatib, born on November sixteenth, thirteen thirteen, was a remarkable Arab Andalusi polymath whose contributions spanned various fields including poetry, writing, history, philosophy, medicine, and politics. Hailing from the Emirate of Granada, he is celebrated as one of the most distinguished poets of his time, with his verses adorning the walls of the magnificent Alhambra palace.

His poetic prowess is exemplified in his compositions, notably the muwashshaḥāt "Jadaka al-Ghaithu" and possibly "Lamma Bada Yatathanna." These works not only reflect his artistic talent but also his deep connection to the cultural heritage of Granada.

In addition to his poetic achievements, Ibn al-Khatib is highly regarded as a historian. He was a contemporary and acquaintance of the renowned scholar Ibn Khaldun. His most significant historical contribution, "The Complete Source on the History of Granada" (الإحاطة في أخبار غرناطة), was penned in the year thirteen sixty-nine and includes his autobiography, although it remains untranslated into English.
