Iginio Straffi, born on May 30, 1965, is a prominent Italian animator and entrepreneur, renowned for his multifaceted contributions to the world of animation and comics. He is the visionary founder and president of Rainbow SpA, a studio he established in 1995 with the help of Lamberto Pigini and Giuseppe Casali. Starting with a modest capital of ten thousand euros, Straffi initially focused on providing creative services before transitioning to original projects that would define his career.
In 2004, Straffi's groundbreaking animated series, Winx Club, made its debut in Italy, quickly gaining international acclaim. This success caught the attention of Viacom, leading to a significant partnership in February 2011, when the American media giant acquired thirty percent of Rainbow. This strategic move was pivotal, as it facilitated the global distribution of Rainbow's productions through Paramount and Nickelodeon, marking a transformative period for the studio.
Throughout the years, Straffi has also co-created the comic book series Maya Fox and produced other animated series such as Huntik: Secrets & Seekers. His journey in the animation industry has been marked by innovation and creativity, and as of 2019, he has begun to shift his focus towards live-action projects, including Nickelodeon's Club 57 and the adaptation of Winx Club, Fate: The Winx Saga.
In January 2023, Straffi reclaimed full ownership of Rainbow by purchasing the remaining stake from Paramount Global, solidifying his role as a leading figure in the animation landscape. His dedication to storytelling and artistic expression continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
