Il Sodoma

Giovanni Antonio Bazzi, known as Il Sodoma, was a prominent Italian Renaissance painter born in 1477. His artistic journey was marked by a unique blend of styles, as he adeptly merged the High Renaissance influences of early 16th-century Rome with the rich traditions of the provincial Sienese school.

Il Sodoma dedicated the majority of his professional life to the vibrant city of Siena, where he created numerous works that showcased his innovative approach to painting. His time in Siena allowed him to develop a distinctive style that resonated with the local artistic community.

In addition to his significant contributions in Siena, Il Sodoma also spent two notable periods in Rome. These experiences enriched his artistic repertoire and further solidified his reputation as a master painter of the Renaissance era.
