Ilan Pappé

Ilan Pappé, born on November seventh, nineteen fifty-four, in Haifa, Israel, is a prominent historian and political scientist renowned for his critical examination of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. As a leading figure among Israel's New Historians, Pappé has dedicated his career to uncovering the complexities of this contentious issue, particularly focusing on the events surrounding the 1948 Palestinian expulsion, which he describes as a systematic ethnic cleansing campaign.

Currently, Pappé serves as a professor at the University of Exeter's College of Social Sciences and International Studies, where he not only teaches but also directs the European Centre for Palestine Studies and co-directs the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. His scholarly contributions include influential works such as 'The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine' (two thousand six), 'A History of Modern Palestine: One Land, Two Peoples' (two thousand three), and 'Ten Myths About Israel' (two thousand seventeen).

Before relocating in two thousand eight due to political pressures, including criticism from the Knesset and threats to his safety, Pappé was a senior lecturer at the University of Haifa from nineteen eighty-four to two thousand seven. He also chaired the Emil Touma Institute for Palestinian and Israeli Studies from two thousand to two thousand eight, further solidifying his role in the academic discourse surrounding these issues.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Pappé has been actively involved in Israeli politics as a member of the Hadash party, participating in the elections of nineteen ninety-six and nineteen ninety-nine. He advocates for a single democratic state for both Israelis and Palestinians and supports the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, including an academic boycott of Israel, reflecting his commitment to social justice and equality.
