Ilarion Ohienko

Ilarion Ohienko, born on January second, eighteen eighty-two, was a prominent figure in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a distinguished scholar. His multifaceted career spanned linguistics, journalism, history, and translation, showcasing his deep commitment to Ukrainian culture and heritage.

In nineteen forty, Ohienko held the esteemed position of Archimandrite at the St. Onuphrius Monastery in Jabłeczna. His ecclesiastical journey continued as he became the Bishop of Chełm later that same year, and by nineteen forty-four, he ascended to the role of Metropolitan of Chełm and Lublin. His influence extended beyond borders when, in nineteen fifty-one, he was appointed Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada.

Ohienko was not only a religious leader but also an active participant in Ukrainian politics, engaging in significant political movements during the revolution and throughout his life in emigration. His contributions to scholarship and various aspects of Ukrainian culture were profound, reflecting his dedication to the advancement of his nation.
