Iñaki Azkuna

Iñaki Azkuna, born on February fourteenth, nineteen forty-three, was a prominent Spanish physician and politician, known for his significant contributions to the Basque Nationalist Party. His career spanned various fields, including cardiology, radiology, and academia, where he served as a university teacher.

From nineteen ninety-nine until his passing in two thousand fourteen, Azkuna held the esteemed position of mayor of Bilbao, Biscay. Under his leadership, the city underwent a remarkable transformation, evolving from an industrial hub into a vibrant cultural center. His visionary approach earned him the prestigious World Mayor Prize in two thousand twelve, recognizing his outstanding achievements in urban development.

Sadly, Iñaki Azkuna succumbed to prostate cancer on March twentieth, two thousand fourteen, in his beloved city of Bilbao. He was seventy-one years old at the time of his death, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and dedication to public service.
