Infanta María Josefa of Spain, born on July sixth, seventeen forty-four, was the second surviving daughter of King Carlo VII of Naples and III of Sicily and his wife, Maria Amalia of Saxony. Her early life began in Naples, where she was raised in the opulence befitting her royal lineage.
At the age of fifteen, María Josefa and her family made a significant move to Barcelona in October seventeen fifty-nine. This transition marked a pivotal moment in her life, coinciding with her father's accession to the Spanish throne as Carlos III in August of the same year. With this elevation, she was granted the title of Infanta of Spain, a position that would define her status within the royal court.
Throughout her life, Infanta María Josefa resided at the courts of her father and later her brother, Carlos IV. Despite her noble standing and the expectations that accompanied it, she remained unmarried and childless, a fact that would shape her legacy in the annals of Spanish history.
