Elena Alexandra Apostoleanu, known to the world as Inna, was born on October 16, 1986, in Mangalia, Romania. Raised in the coastal town of Neptun, she initially pursued a degree in political science at Ovidius University. However, her passion for music led her to collaborate with the Romanian trio Play & Win, marking the beginning of her illustrious career in the music industry.
Inna first adopted the stage name 'Alessandra' in 2008, embracing a pop-rock style. Later that year, she transitioned to the name 'Inna' and ventured into the realms of EDM, house, and popcorn music. Her debut single, 'Hot,' released in 2008, achieved remarkable commercial success, topping charts in Romania and the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay chart. This success was followed by her debut studio album, which was released in August 2009 and received Gold and Platinum certifications.
Her second album, 'I Am the Club Rocker,' released in 2011, featured the hit single 'Sun Is Up,' which garnered her the Eurodanceweb Award, making her the first Romanian artist to achieve this honor. By 2011, Inna was recognized as the highest-paid artist in Romania and Eastern Europe. Her subsequent album, 'Party Never Ends,' released in 2013, continued her streak of success, featuring collaborations and nominations at the Romanian Music Awards.
Inna's career continued to flourish with her fourth studio album, released in October 2015, which included the chart-topping single 'Diggy Down.' She has also made her mark as a coach on the talent show 'Vocea României Junior' since 2017. Her fifth album, 'Nirvana,' released in 2017, and her sixth album, 'Yo,' released in May 2019 under Roc Nation, showcased her evolution as an artist, exploring new musical styles.
With global album sales exceeding four million copies from her first three albums, Inna stands as the best-selling Romanian artist. Her contributions to music have earned her numerous awards, including the Balkan Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards. Beyond her musical achievements, Inna is also a dedicated human rights activist, advocating against domestic violence and supporting children's rights.
