Irene Worth

Irene Worth, born Harriett Elizabeth Abrams on June 23, 1916, was a distinguished American actress whose remarkable talent graced both stage and screen. She emerged as a leading figure in the British and American theatre, captivating audiences with her powerful performances.

Making her Broadway debut in 1943, Worth quickly established herself as a formidable presence in the theatrical world. She joined the Old Vic company in 1951 and later became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1962, further solidifying her reputation as a versatile and accomplished actress.

Her film career was equally impressive, highlighted by her BAFTA Award for Best British Actress for the 1958 film Orders to Kill. Worth's notable film appearances included roles in Nicholas and Alexandra in 1971 and Deathtrap in 1982, showcasing her range and depth as an actress.

A three-time Tony Award winner, she received accolades for her performances in Tiny Alice in 1965 and Sweet Bird of Youth in 1976, as well as for her role in Lost in Yonkers in 1991, which she reprised in the film adaptation in 1993. One of her final stage performances was alongside Paul Scofield in the 2001 production of I Take Your Hand in Mine at the Almeida Theatre in London.
