Irina Vlah

Irina Vlah, born on February twenty-six, nineteen seventy-four, is a prominent Moldovan politician known for her significant contributions to the political landscape of Gagauzia. She made history as the first woman to lead the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, serving as governor from two thousand fifteen to two thousand twenty-three. Prior to her governorship, Vlah was an influential member of the Moldovan parliament from two thousand five to two thousand fifteen.

Throughout her political career, Vlah has been a key figure in advocating for the interests of Gagauzia, navigating complex political terrains and representing her constituents with dedication. Her leadership was marked by a commitment to regional development and political representation.

However, her political journey faced significant challenges in two thousand twenty-five when she was subjected to sanctions in Canada and banned from entering several European countries, including Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, and Estonia. These actions were a result of her alleged involvement in Russian interference ahead of the Moldovan parliamentary elections. Additionally, the Moldovan authorities took measures to block her bank accounts amid accusations of illegal financing related to her party, the Heart of Moldova Republican Party (PRIM), which was excluded from the elections just two days prior.
