Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan, born on January 7, 1967, was an acclaimed Indian actor whose remarkable career spanned over three decades, making significant contributions to Indian cinema as well as British and American films. Widely recognized as one of the finest actors in world cinema, Khan's talent earned him numerous accolades, including a National Film Award, an Asian Film Award, and six Filmfare Awards. In 2011, he was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, and posthumously received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

Khan made his film debut in the critically acclaimed Salaam Bombay! in 1988, which marked the beginning of a challenging journey in the film industry. He appeared in several student films from the Film and Television Institute of India, including Reconnaissance in 1990. His early Hindi film roles included notable performances in Drishti and Ek Doctor Ki Maut, both released in 1990, where he shared the screen with prominent actors like Pankaj Kapur and Shabana Azmi. His international breakthrough came with the British film The Warrior in 2001.

His career took a significant turn with leading roles in Hindi films such as Haasil in 2003 and Maqbool in 2004, which established him as a leading actor. Khan received critical acclaim for his performances in The Namesake, Life in a... Metro, and Paan Singh Tomar, the latter earning him the National Film Award for Best Actor. He continued to shine in films like The Lunchbox, Piku, and Talvar, while also making memorable appearances in Hollywood productions like The Amazing Spider-Man, Life of Pi, and Jurassic World.

By 2017, Khan's films had grossed an impressive three point six four three billion dollars at the worldwide box office. However, his life took a tragic turn when he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in March 2018, leading to his untimely death on April 29, 2020. Described by critics as a distinguished and charismatic star, Khan's legacy serves as a vital bridge between South Asian and Hollywood cinema, and he was honored in the 'In memoriam' segment of the 93rd Academy Awards.
