Isa Hasan al-Yasiri, an Iraqi-Canadian poet, was born in a village near Al-Kumait in the Maysan Governorate of southern Iraq in nineteen forty-two. His early education took place in both his village school and the Al-Kumait school, followed by intermediate and higher education at the Teachers' House in Al-Amarah. This foundation set the stage for a diverse career in education, radio, and literary journalism.

Al-Yasiri is recognized among his contemporaries for his distinctive voice in poetry and his commitment to independence from the Iraqi Ba'athist regime. His work reflects a unique perspective shaped by his personal experiences and the socio-political landscape of his homeland.

In the fall of nineteen ninety-eight, he left Iraq, seeking refuge in Jordan where he spent two and a half years. In early two thousand one, he made his way to Canada, ultimately settling in Montreal. Throughout his literary journey, he has published approximately eight poetry collections, with his first debuting in nineteen seventy-three, showcasing his evolution as a poet.
