Isa Kremer

Isa Kremer, born on October twenty-first, eighteen eighty-seven, was a remarkable soprano of Russian Jewish descent. Throughout her life, she held citizenship in Russia, the United States, and Argentina. Kremer first gained attention as a teenager for her revolutionary poetry, which was published in an Odessa newspaper, showcasing her artistic talents beyond music.

In the second decade of the twentieth century, Kremer embarked on her professional singing career in Europe as an opera singer. However, by the time she relocated to the United States in nineteen twenty-four, she had transitioned from opera to become a celebrated concert soloist and recitalist.

As a recitalist, Kremer's repertoire was diverse; she not only performed classical works but also embraced folk music from various cultures, singing in multiple languages. Notably, she may have been the first woman to present Yiddish songs on the concert stage, breaking new ground in the world of music.

In nineteen twenty-seven, she expanded her artistic horizons by performing as a vaudeville artist while continuing her extensive work as a recitalist. Kremer spent the last eighteen years of her life in Argentina, having moved there in nineteen thirty-eight. Her legacy was honored in two thousand when her life was the subject of a television documentary titled 'Isa Kremer: The People's Diva,' produced for The Jewish Channel.
