István Avar

István Avar, born on May 28, 1905, in Arad, Hungary, was a distinguished footballer and manager of German descent. His early career saw him excel as a forward, representing both Hungary and Romania on the international stage. Avar's most notable achievement came during the 1934 World Cup, where he showcased his talent as a member of the Hungary national team.

Throughout his career, Avar played for Újpest FC, where he made a significant impact. In 1929, he helped the team secure the Mitropa Cup, finishing as the competition's top scorer with ten goals. The following year, he contributed to Újpest's triumph in the Coupe des Nations, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable player.

After 1941, Avar transitioned into management, taking on the role of player-manager at Kaposvári Rákóczi. His leadership and experience were invaluable to the team during this period. Avar's life came to a close in Kaposvár on October 13, 1977, at the age of seventy-two, leaving behind a legacy in Hungarian football.
