Ivan Kostov, born on December twenty-third, nineteen forty-nine, is a prominent Bulgarian economist and politician who held the office of Prime Minister from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand one. A key figure in the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF), he led the Bulgarian political party SDS from nineteen ninety-four until two thousand one. His political journey began in the wake of the fall of communism in Bulgaria, where he initially served as a Member of Parliament in the seventh Grand National Assembly starting in nineteen ninety.
Before ascending to the role of Prime Minister, Kostov was appointed Minister of Finance, serving under the governments of Dimitar Popov and Filip Dimitrov from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-two.
