Ivano Balić

Ivano Balić, born on April first, nineteen seventy-nine, is a celebrated Croatian former professional handball player who has made significant contributions to the sport. Currently, he is part of the coaching staff at RK Split, where he continues to influence the next generation of players.

Renowned for his exceptional speed, creativity, and movement on the court, Balić's illustrious career includes winning the World Championship in two thousand three and securing an Olympic gold medal in two thousand four with the Croatian national team. His club career is equally impressive, boasting thirteen titles across teams in Croatia, Spain, and Germany.

Throughout his career, Balić earned numerous accolades, including two World Championship silver medals in two thousand five and two thousand nine, as well as two European Championship silver medals and one bronze medal in two thousand eight, two thousand ten, and two thousand twelve. He also claimed an Olympic bronze medal in two thousand twelve, solidifying his status as one of the greatest handball players of all time.

Affectionately nicknamed 'Rukometni Mozart' or 'Handball Mozart,' Balić was voted the most valuable player in five consecutive major international competitions. He is one of only five male handball players to have received the IHF World Player of the Year award multiple times, in two thousand three and two thousand six. In two thousand ten, he was recognized as the best handball player in history in an online poll conducted by the International Handball Federation (IHF). His legacy was further cemented when he was inducted into the European Handball Hall of Fame in two thousand twenty-three.
