Ivans Klementjevs, born on November eighteenth, nineteen sixty, is a distinguished Soviet-born Latvian politician and former sprint canoeist. His athletic career spanned from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s, during which he achieved remarkable success on the international stage. Klementjevs is best known for his outstanding performance in the C-1 1000 m event, where he secured three Olympic medals: a gold in nineteen eighty-eight, and silver medals in nineteen ninety-two and nineteen ninety-six, representing the USSR.

Throughout his career, Klementjevs trained rigorously at Trudovye Rezervy and later at the Armed Forces sports society in Riga, honing his skills in a highly competitive environment. His prowess in canoeing was further demonstrated at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, where he amassed a total of twelve medals, including seven golds in the C-1 1000 m and one in the C-1 10000 m events, alongside two silvers and three bronzes.

After retiring from the sport, Klementjevs transitioned into politics, serving as a Riga city councillor for the National Harmony Party from two thousand one to two thousand five. Since two thousand six, he has been a member of the Saeima, representing the Harmony party. His contributions to both sports and politics have been recognized, culminating in the prestigious Order of the Three Stars, 4th Class, awarded to him in nineteen ninety-nine.
