Ivica Osim, born on May 6, 1941, in Bosnia, was a distinguished figure in the world of football, both as a player and a manager. He is celebrated as one of the greatest Bosnian football managers and is recognized for his significant influence in the former Yugoslavia's football landscape.
As a talented player, Osim represented the Yugoslavia national team, showcasing his skills at the 1964 Summer Olympics. His remarkable performance continued at UEFA Euro 1968, where he not only earned a silver medal but was also honored with a place in the Team of the Tournament.
Transitioning to management, Osim achieved notable success, including a bronze medal as an assistant coach at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He led the Yugoslavia national team to the quarter-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup and guided his hometown club, Željezničar, to the semi-finals of the 1984–85 UEFA Cup.
Later in his career, Osim took the helm of the Japan national team but faced health challenges after suffering a stroke in November 2007. In April 2011, he was appointed president of the interim committee for the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a role he held until December 2012. Osim passed away on May 1, 2022, after enduring years of health issues stemming from his stroke.
